Foolproof Flower Embroidery - book review

Posted by Dione van Beynum on

Oooohhhh.... I LOVE this book! The front cover is inspiring enough on its own, but open the cover and....

It's fabulous!

Sample Page - showing hand-made background fabric

Why do I love it? It has LOTS of stitch diagrams, a good basic discussion on materials and supplies, even a section on making your own background fabric (fun!), but best of all, there are LOTS of ideas. The book has been thoughtfully put together with sections that suggest which stitches work for stems, which for petals and flowers, and which for twigs. After that, your imagination is the limit!

Jennifer also uses almost any fibre available, from everyday floss to silk ribbon to crewel wool and perle cotton.

Stuck on how to make a stem look thicker? Which stitch would give the right texture and effect? Then look no further - the answer's in here somewhere.

I can just sit and look at this book all day, fermenting ideas and making sketches (some in my head). I can't wait to try some of the designs out!
