SJ Designs flat sequins are more like the metal spangles treasured by needleworkers of the past than their modern-day counterparts found in any craft store. Their space-age material looks like metal while being lightweight, flexible, rust-and-tarnish free and hand washable! Sequins in the color photos are greatly enlarged to show detail. For a size reference– 3mm sequins are just about the same size as an 8/0 seed bead or approximately 3/32-inch across (or in between 1/16 and 1/8). These sequins are a bright shiny gold, made of a space-age polyester that’s extremely durable as well as washable (they can be ironed with a press cloth). Package of 350.
These 10mm heart-shaped metal Spangles measure a little over 3/8″ across. The close-up picture shows the spangles on top of 27-count evenweave fabric. “Bronze” Spangles have a dull, burnished finish.
Spangles are the “original” sequins– flat disks punched out of metal with a small drilled hole, similar to those used in medieval and ethnic embroideries. These have a somewhat rustic look, with mottled or slightly discolored surface finishes and sometimes off-center holes, but it’s all part of their charm as they were made in the old-fashioned way– being hand-punched out of a sheet of metal. You can allow them to age or spray your spangles with clear lacquer to preserve their finish.
Attach spangles to your needlework with a bead or pearl through the hole or stitch them down with three or four straight stitches from the outer edge down into the center hole; use them individually as accents or overlap them for a scaled effect.
Package of 10 – larger quantities availalble by Special Order.
