Perlé cotton is a tightly twisted, non-divisible threads available in a variety of sizes (thicknesses). The higher the number, the thinner the thread, thus #3 is the thickest, and #12 is the thinnest. Commonly available in sizes 3, 5, 8, and 12. Suitable for a number of different uses including needlepoint, canvaswork, cross stitch, linen embroidery, surface embroidery, crazy quilting, and lacemaking (crochet, knitting, bobbin lace, tatting, and needle lace). Perlé or pearl cotton derives its name from the tight twist, which causes a stitched piece to resemble (a little) a string of pearls.
